Migrants storm UK-bound ferry

-

UP to 100 migrants clambered aboard a UK-bound ferry after storming the port of Calais on Saturday night.

At least 63 were arrested after they used a ladder to scramble on to the DFDS Seaways boat. Two were rescued after falling overboard, while a crew member suffered minor injuries during a scuffle.

British tourists were held up for more than an hour as the port was put on lockdown and crossings were cancelled or delayed. A further four migrants were reportedly found hiding on the upper deck of a DFDS Seaways ferry yesterday, while UK police questioned 11 migrants from Eritrea after they were found at a lorry park in Kent. It comes amid a dramatic escalation in migrants trying to reach Britain in the run up to Brexit.

Some 434 migrants tried to cross the Channel in small boats in the last three months of 201 , compared to 13 known attempts in the whole of 2017.
