Michael Jackson songs disappear from Radio 2
BBC Radio 2 appears to have dropped Michael Jackson’s back catalogue from its playlists ahead of a controversial TV documentary about the singer to be broadcast this week.
The four-hour film, Leaving Neverland, exposes the star’s alleged paedophilia and sexual abuse of young boys and will be shown on Channel 4 in two parts on Wednesday and Thursday.
The last Jackson solo track to feature on Radio 2 was his 1979 hit Rock With You, which was broadcast on Saturday February 23, according to the Sunday Times.
‘We consider each piece of music on its own merits and decisions on what we play on different networks are always made with relevant audiences and context in mind,’ said the BBC.
The documentary features the testimonies of James Safechuck, 40, and Wade Robson, 36, who both claim to have been abused by the pop star when they were children. The late singer’s family has denied the allegations and his estate is reportedly suing HBO for $100million (£75.5million).
