SEAWEED WIPES YOU CAN THROW IN YOUR FOOD BIN

-

IN HIS capacity as chief ‘product inventor’ at Lush, Gary Shears spends his life dreaming up innovative products.

But he knew he had a challenge on his hands when Lush asked him to create a ‘wet wipe’ which would clean your face but decompose naturally when disposed of.

‘Lush was concerned about the fact that make-up removing wipes were being flushed away and causing blockages in sewers, so we worked to see if there was a way to incorporate our cleanser into a natural cloth,’ Gary says.

The result of his endeavours is the ‘7 to 3’ wipe, a thin disc of spongy material made from seaweed, which foams up when wetted. After use, the pad can be rinsed and put aside to dry naturally, then re-used until it starts to break down and can be put in the household food bin.

Gary is also refining production of ‘Naked shower gels’ which are individual balls of liquid soap, sealed by a natural skin which bursts in the shower.

‘I’m very excited by this,’ he says. ‘I’ve learned a lot from Heston Blumenthal — he’s one of my idols!’ 7 to 3 wipes £2 each, uk.lush.com
