PICK OF THE DAY

MOTHERFATHERSON, 9PM, BBC2

TO MUCH fanfare surrounding the casting of Hollywood legend Richard Gere, this eight-part drama, written by Tom Rob Smith (The Assassination Of Gianni Versace), promises a great deal in its opening episode. Gere stars as Max Finch, a sure-footed American media mogul, who arrives in London to take care of business — as well as more personal family matters. Son and heir Caden (Billy Howle) is strung out, while Caden’s mother, Max’s defiant ex-wife Kathryn (Helen McCrory, pictured with Gere), won’t toe the line. Their worlds blow apart against the backdrop of an intense power struggle.
