Clean energy stake
the world’s biggest producer of coal used for steel production has backed a clean energy project. BhP Group has bought a £4.6m stake in Canada-based Carbon engineering, which is developing a machine to suck greenhouse gases out of the air to turn them into fuels. the miner wants to cut carbon emissions to zero after 2050.
Fiona Wild, vice-president for sustainability and climate change, said: ‘We hope this can accelerate development and adoption of this technology.’
Carbon engineering’s backers included Microsoft tycoon Bill Gates.
