Bolton get 24hrs to save Millwall clash

- By MIKE KEEGAN

Bolton’s match with Millwall on saturday is under threat over safety concerns as the financial crisis at the Championship club continues. the town’s council have given the club 24 hours to assure them they can meet safety requirements for the fixture at the University of Bolton stadium — or it will be called off. Fears have been raised that a lack of funds would impact on the club’s ability to stage the fixture safely. town hall officials, who met police, ambulance and fire service staff yesterday in an emergency summit, were not satisfied that the club could meet the required legal standards. As a result, they have given Bolton until 1pm this afternoon to ‘provide adequate reassurances’. If they are not forthcoming, the council says it will have no option other than to issue a prohibition notice. A spokesman for Bolton Council said: ‘the club has recently been unable to demonstrate it can meet the legal conditions of the ground’s safety certificate. ‘the council has taken the decision to give the club 24 hours to address all safety concerns, otherwise we will reluctantly issue a prohibition notice.’ Bolton were unavailable for comment, but said in a statement they ‘provided written assurances that they are able to meet the legal conditions’. the EFl are set to discuss the issue at a general board meeting today. As Sportsmail reported yesterday, the lancashire club’s training ground was closed because of a lack of food, drink and equipment but it has since reopened. staff are still without last month’s wages which were due to be paid last week, with former Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon exploring the possibility of a takeover bid.
