I feel 10 years younger after liquid diet beat my diabetes

- By Victoria Allen Science Correspondent

ISOBEL Murray started the liquid diet five years ago, weighing 15 stone.

In just 18 months she lost four stone, being told in 2016 that her diabetes was in remission and she no longer needed medication for it.

She remains free of diabetes, going to the gym and walking to ensure she keeps her weight down.

Mrs Murray, 67, from Largs in Ayrshire, said: ‘When I was first told that my diabetes had gone into remission, I felt absolutely ecstatic. Four and a half years later, that feeling is still with me.

‘Over the past few years I’ve been able to lead a normal life again.’

The former civil servant, who has two grown-up sons, was one of the first people to be put on the liquid diet, which her GP had suggested she try.

Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2011, she had seen her medication increased with every visit to the doctor because she felt increasingly unwell.

But she reversed the condition within 17 weeks of starting the trial, where she first ate just a vanilla and chocolate shake and mushroom and vegetable soups each day.

Mrs Murray said: ‘It only took a few months to do the plan and to get my life back – it was worth every minute. I feel ten years younger now and I will do everything in my power to never go back to how things were before.’

Eddie Morrison has been free of diabetes for three years after losing a quarter of his weight on a liquid soup and shakes diet. The 6 -year-old grandfather went into remission six months after signing up for the diet regime.

He had feared he would have type 2 diabetes for the rest of his life after being diagnosed shortly before his 55th birthday. Mr Morrison, a retired oil industry boss from Larbert in Stirlingshire, said: ‘The trial gave me the kick-start that I needed. I struggle to think what would have happened had I not taken this opportunity.’
