Vegan farm protesters crush piglets to death in stampede
VeGAN campaigners were accused of crushing two piglets to death when they caused a stampede at a farm.
Farmer Sylvia hook, 59, said they came in ‘mob-handed’, killed two piglets and injured two more at her farm while protesting against cruelty in farming last Saturday.
Mrs hook, who runs Sandilands Farm near Laughterton, Lincolnshire, claimed the 200-strong group of campaigners had left her family terrified and caused damage to the farm. She added: ‘It’s ridiculous they call themselves animal rights activists and they’re the ones who have caused the deaths. It’s crazy.’ She told BBC Look North: ‘They were picking piglets up, cuddling them – there was a lot of screaming going on. The sows were very stressed initially with all the noise and the commotion, jumping up and down, squashing piglets, causing general havoc.’
But campaigners from ‘Meat the Victims’ denied they caused the animals stress or were responsible for the deaths.
Activist Chris hines, 38, said the group wanted to attract coverage of the protest – and also denied they had been responsible for the deaths of any piglets. Another campaigner, who calls himself ‘earthling ed’, labelled farms ‘death factories’.
