Strong sentences

THE reason knife crime is so prevalent is that the courts have not backed the police by imposing harsh punishments. We are going to get nowhere until people realise they will be punished if they carry a weapon.

Don’t rehabilitate them. We need to punish them with curfews and electronic tags, but preferably prison. We need more police and, at this rate, more prisons.

This is going to cost money, so to pay for it, let’s get rid of HS2.
