A DAY OF ANDY’S REHAB
Andy Murray revealed what his rehab entails, with this an example of his daily schedule:
45 minutes of physiotherapy including massage and stretches. This helps restore movement when an athlete is recovering from an injury.
60 minutes swimming, with a combination of laps and aquatic exercises. The water promotes circulation, helping to decrease pain and inflammation.
60 minutes of weights to build his strength ahead of his comeback. The Scot has previously worn a 20kg weight belt while doing pull-ups.
20 minutes of cardio including cycling and on the cross-trainer, which works both the lower and upper body.
40 minutes of walking on an anti-gravity treadmill. Murray is currently walking at 85-90 per cent of his body weight.
30 minutes swimming. A second session of aquatic exercises to ease pressure on his hip.
45 minutes of ‘a range of motion’ exercises. Murray describes this as the most important element of his recovery and also the most uncomfortable. This tests how far you can move your joints in different directions.
TOTAL: 5 HOURS PER DAY!
