Techno referee

-

VAR, the video assistant referee, is coming to the Premier League, so I hope everyone is ready for many interruptions to the game.

All those goal celebrations will be muted as we await the official verdict to be either disappointed or allowed to go wild.

Yes, a referee can get it wrong, but let’s keep the game flowing and accept the official’s decision as honestly made with good intentions.

Even VAR can get it wrong because it is up to the interpretation of the individual checking it. All the pundits will be moaning when the games are interrupted, yet they are the ones who have been banging on

about it for so long. How many Premier League goals would have been disallowed this season if VAR had been operating? It might have been a very different league table.

If we don’t want the person officiating to make a decision, should we lose the referee and let VAR take over the game?
