Huawei in stinging attack on America

-

HUAWEI accused the US of acting as ‘judge, jury and executioner’ as it launched a legal fight back against bans on its equipment.

The Chinese telecoms group has filed a lawsuit urging a federal court to overturn parts of the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA), which bars American government departments from using Chinese kit.

Huawei claims the act, signed by President Trump in August, is unconstitutional and amounts to a ‘corporate death penalty’.

The firm’s move comes as US officials are pressuring allies around the world to shun its equipment over spying fears. Huawei rejects accusations its kit poses a risk.

Huawei’s lawsuit seeks a temporary injunction against parts of the defence act and an eventual ruling to strike them down entirely.

The US Justice Department declined to comment on the legal action.
