RAMOS TELLS REAL: GIVE ME A PAY-OFF
JOSE MOURINHO’S chances of a return to Real Madrid have increased after a furious row between president Florentino Perez and Sergio Ramos. After the humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat by Ajax, which the suspended Ramos watched from the stands, Perez stormed into the dressing room. He laid into the players for a lack of dedication and called them ‘embarrassing’. But club captain Ramos, 32, hit back, blaming the president’s bad planning for Real’s awful season. Perez told Ramos he would get rid of him, to which Ramos replied: ‘You pay me and I’ll go.’ Ramos, who is contracted to the club until 2021, earns around £9.5million a year. The row, revealed by newspaper Diario AS in Spain, convinced Perez that a strong boss is required to take on the dressing-room heavyweights. During his time at Real from 2010-13, Mourinho had a tempestuous relationship with Ramos and the pair have never patched things up.
