Rodgers tells of burglary horror

- By LAURIE WHITWELL

Brendan rodgers said wife Charlotte and six- year- old step- daughter Lola had been through an ‘horrendous’ experience during the burglary at their Glasgow home, being forced to use a panic button and hide in a bathroom.

The Leicester manager revealed he will step up house-hunting in his new city and his family will now move to be with him this weekend, rather than wait until the end of the school term.

rodgers confirmed his Celtic medals were stolen during the raid but managed to raise a smile and said: ‘I’ll have to try and get some more.’

Speaking for the first time since the 1.30am break- in on Wednesday, rodgers described how the men disturbed his family in the night.

‘I assume they thought no one was in,’ rodgers said. ‘Charlotte didn’t hear the house being broken into at the back and they came in and ransacked the bottom, then went on a wander through the upstairs.

‘ She heard voices and was dreaming and thought maybe it was me back. They came into the room and then panicked. We have a panic button for the police and she hid in the bathroom and called me.

‘I didn’t hear the phone but I saw a missed call and rang about 3.30am and she told me what happened.

‘It’s an horrendous experience for anyone to go through. You’re always worried, a young child seeing that, but she’s OK. It gave the girls a fright. Burglars entered the room with my daughter there.’

Charlotte and Lola will now have 24- hour protection until they move to Leicester.

‘We are looking to buy a home,’ rodgers said. ‘Lola loved the school she was in. Our plan was to keep her in Glasgow until the end of term. This makes that happen a bit quicker now.’

rodgers added: ‘ The last 10 days, there has been a lot said about my move. I don’t want it to detract from the amazing time I had in Glasgow.

‘Those memories will live with us. We will not let this cloud any of that.’
