Trump launches new bid for wall
DONALD Trump yesterday launched another bid to secure the $8.6billion (£6.5billion) needed for his border wall.
As the US President unveiled his budget for the 2020 election year, he suggested cutting domestic spending by 5 per cent to pay for the wall along the border with Mexico, which was his signature campaign pledge.
Mr Trump, a Republican, also wants to raise military spending – but faces resistance from Democrats who said he ‘did not learn his lesson’ from the last budget row, which caused the US government to shut down for a record 35 days, ending in January.
The proposed cuts will be across departments such as health, agriculture, education, welfare and foreign aid. The elimination of all funding for public television and radio broadcasters has also been suggested.
