Woman ‘saws off hand for injury payout’

A WOMAN has been accused of cutting her own hand off in a gruesome insurance fraud bid.

The 21-year-old and a relative, 29, were held by police after the circular saw ‘accident’ in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. It reportedly took place soon after they took out disability insurance paying £340,000, with another £2,600 a month.

Relatives took the woman to hospital, saying she had been cutting branches. Officials say they left the hand behind to ensure the disability was permanent – but it was recovered and reattached.

If found guilty, the suspects could be jailed for eight years.
