Gloria Hunniford cuts up rough over TV violence
IT’S a feminist bust-up. Veteran TV presenter Gloria Hunniford has taken issue with remarks by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge who has called female violence in dramas such as Killing Eve — which the actress wrote — as ‘ refreshing and oddly empowering’.
‘When you have seen real violence in the streets like I did in Ireland this is not TV, this is not drama, this is real life,’ Hunniford, 78, tells me. ‘I saw bad things. I once saw a man die before my eyes. It doesn’t empower women at all. Violence is violence.’
The former Northern Ireland TV presenter continues: ‘I was a news reporter and saw the real thing.
‘This is not showbusiness! This is life. I wouldn’t watch sex or violence.’
