Cashless doesn’t add up

-

THere is talk these days about a cashless society. Such a step will produce many difficulties.

Forget for a moment the millions who have neither a computer nor bank account, but focus on the practicality of some cash- only businesses operating without cash.

What will happen to the millions of vending machines that sell just about everything, from confectionery to contraception, requiring just a small payment? Or to amusement arcades that involve the use of just a few coins to play a game?

The many funfairs that travel the length and breadth of the country depend on cash to keep the wheels turning.

The restaurant trade will suffer, as waiters will no longer be left tips. Taxi drivers will experience the same fate, as there will be no cash to give the driver a tip for helping with the luggage. The list of businesses and occupations using actual cash goes on and on.

as a final thought, how do you spend a penny?
