A GRAND DAY OUT...
WINDERMERE JETTY: MUSEUM OF BOATS, STEAM AND STORIES
TAKE a look at record- breaking speedboats, historic sailing yachts and Victorian steam launches when the Windermere Jetty Museum opens on March 23 on the shore of the lake.
Themed exhibitions, displayed on the water and in galleries, will celebrate 200 years of boating in the Lake District, telling the stories of the vessels, who built them and how they were used.
Visitors will be able to see Beatrix Potter’s tarn boat in which she used to sketch and SL Dolly, thought to be the world’s oldest mechanically powered boat. The 40 ship collection is the only one of its kind
The conservation workshop will also be open every day, so guests can see the museum’s boat builders in action and speak to expert restorers.
DON’T MISS: Sailing Windermere on Osprey ( 1902), a fully restored Edwardian steam ship.
DETAILS: The museum is on the shores of Windermere, two miles from the village, and is accessible by road, rail and boat. Book tickets, £9 (children £7), at windermerejetty.org.
