KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK
Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages 2016, £9 (normally £11), Tesco THIS weather still calls for red wines, but at least this is more spring-like in style. From the Beaujolais region, it’s bright with juicy raspberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours from a top producer at a great price.
WHITE
Exquisite Collection Marsanne 2018, £5.99, Aldi DUE in Aldi on Saturday, this is worth stocking up on if you like your whites fresh and aromatic. The Marsanne grape usually ends up in a blend, so I love seeing it take the spotlight.
FOOD PAIRING: Grilled chicken.
RED
Taste The Difference Fairtrade Carmenere 2018, £7 (normally £9), Sainsbury’s A LITTLE more robust than the Beaujolais, this is from Chile’s Central Valley. Carmenere grapes are full of black fruit flavours, with a kick of spice and a lick of oak for depth. FOOD PAIRING: Shepherd’s pie.
SPARKLING
Chapel Down Rose Brut, £24.99, Waitrose WITHOUT seeing the bottle, people think this is Champagne. It’s made like the real thing, from Pinot Noir grapes, but it’s from Kent. Gorgeous, redolent of fresh red fruits and crushed biscuits.
FOOD PAIRING: Antipasti.
