DAVID GRAY is in the Radio 2 Piano Room this morning. The English singer-songwriter will be giving a live session that includes tracks from his new album, Gold In A Brass Age, and will tell KEN BRUCE (RADIO 2, 9.30AM) about his upcoming UK tour.

THE old innkeeper at the Plough Inn at Rusper in Sussex had a quavery voice, but that made the songs he sang all the more moving. The composer Ralph Vaughan Williams recorded the innkeeper singing, among other tunes, The Turtle Dove, an 18th-century love song. THE TURTLE DOVE PILGRIMAGE (RADIO 4, 11.30AM) joins folk singer Sam Lee (pictured) as he leads 11 pilgrims through the lovely countryside — towards Sussex’s last surviving colony of

turtledoves — to sing the ballad in a programme that is full of genuine charm.

ANDY SALMON was in the Royal Marines for 36 years, seeing much conflict

and death in the Falklands, Northern Ireland and Angola during his long service. For this week’s RAMBLINGS (RADIO 4,

3PM), Andy joins Clare Balding for a tough walk on a part of Dartmoor used by the Marines for training. He tells Clare about his Journey Through Conflict programme, which helps former service personnel to talk about their wartime experiences.
