VARNISH FIGHTS TRIBUNAL DEFEAT

JeSS VARNISH has appealed against the employment tribunal decision that denied her the chance to sue British Cycling for kicking her off the team before Rio 2016.

The tribunal ruled that she was not employed by British Cycling, so could not sue for wrongful dismissal. Her lawyer said last night: ‘The original claim was against British Cycling and UK Sport. on behalf of Ms Varnish, we have filed an appeal at the employment Appeal Tribunal against British Cycling alone.’

A judge will decide if her appeal can proceed.
