£40million Monet for sale ... expect stacks of interest!
HIS Haystacks series is one of the most recognisable in art history.
Now Claude Monet’s Meules, painted in 1890, will go on sale at Sotheby’s in New York for an estimated £40million.
The Impressionist work, above, will go on public display ahead of the May sale.
It was bought from the artist’s dealer by a Chicago businessman in the 1890s and acquired by the current owners at auction for £1.9 million in 1986.
August Uribe, of Sotheby’s, said: ‘It is a privilege to present one of Claude Monet’s defining Impressionist paintings.’
Some of the proceeds will go to nonprofit institutions in science and music.
