Snowdon and sister’s tribute to Queen Mum
THE Earl of Snowdon and his sister, Lady Sarah Chatto, were out as a crafty duo this week, in tribute to their grandmother, the Queen Mother.
Thirty years ago, the Queen Mum allowed craftsmen to become Royal warrant holders. And on Wednesday night David and Sarah hosted a table at the V&A to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, which provides funds for beekeepers, sculptors, silversmiths and potters.
In her 90s, the Queen Mother would turn up unannounced at her grandson’s shop, Linley, to see his handcrafted furniture. Princess Margaret, asked by then PM Jim Callaghan why her son had become a carpenter, replied: ‘Christ was a carpenter.’
