Parking cowboys brought to heel
ROGUE parking firms could finally be driven out of business under laws designed to clean up the ‘ Wild West’ industry.
Companies that flout the new rules can now be barred from buying DVLA vehicle keeper records, which they rely on to chase motorists for fines.
Drivers will also be able to more easily challenge unfair tickets through an independent appeals service. ‘For far too many
drivers slapped with unjust fines this largely unregulated industry feels like the Wild West,’ said local government minister Rishi Sunak.
The AA said it welcomed the rules but warned the system still relied too heavily on drivers appealing against tickets.
Andrew Pester, of the British Pa r k i n g Association, said the legislation would create a single standardsetting body that would lead to greater consistency and more confidence among consumers.
