KENT’S COPPER RIVET DISTILLERY

BOOK a tour of Kent’s only grain to glass distillery in Chatham to follow the journey from raw ingredients to finished product, while sampling the spirits on offer along the way. After you’ve learned how it’s made, relax with a gin and tonic at the 70-seat deli overlooking the River Medway. Located in a Victorian Pump house (above), The Copper Rivet Distillery is part of the historic Chatham Royal Dockyard and has views of Upnor Castle. The distillery produces Dockyard Gin, Vela Vodka and the Son Of A Gun (inset), which is a blend of grains mixed with Kentish water. Its Masthouse Whisky will be released in 2020. Spirits are stocked across Kent, in Waitrose, bars and restaurants, with the London market picking up thanks to help from Harrods and Selfridges.

DON’T MISS: The Son of a Gun cocktail recipe, with orange peel, a sugar cube and bitters

over ice. DETAILS: The distillery is a ten-minute drive from Chatham train station. Tours cost £14, and include a tasting of all three spirits. Book at copperrivetdistillery.com.
