Powell warns Tigers to up their game

-

DARYL POWELL warned Castleford they will need to improve for Friday’s clash with St Helens after struggling to see off Salford 24-20. The Tigers bounced back from their first defeat of the Super League season at Warrington but were not at their best. ‘Our boys will have to get their heads right for what is a big challenge,’ Powell said. ‘We’re going to need to step up in terms of quality but we’re capable of doing it. The way we play, we can open teams up, no question, but you’ve got to be good against Saints. We’ve got to be right at our best to find those weaknesses.’ Castleford took control of the game thanks to tries from Nathan Massey and Jordan Rankin. Scores by Greg Eden and Jesse Sene-Lefao finished off the visitors. England full-back Sam Tomkins secured Catalans Dragons’ first away win of the season with an outstanding conversion from the touchline, after Lewis Tierney’s 75th minute try at Hull KR, to make it 18-16. ‘Sam is a big-game player,’ coach Steve McNamara said. ‘It was a clutch kick from him.’
