Video farce treats Cup with contempt

-

SWANSEA will rightly feel hard done by that VAR was not able to disallow at least one of Manchester City’s goals on Saturday. It is a disgrace that technology was not available at all quarter-final ties. Is it any wonder that the competition is not taken seriously when it is being used as a vehicle to experiment with VAR? It would not have been difficult to deploy technology at the four ties. Watford and Wolves are Premier League clubs and, until May, Swansea were, too. Indeed, technology was used at their ground in last season’s quarter-final. If VAR could be set up at Burton for the home leg of their League Cup semi-final against City, surely it would have been no problem to do the same at Millwall? This is our flagship Cup competition but this weekend’s VAR farce is treating it with utter contempt.
