You sexist pig! Fire brigade blasts Peppa
WITH its gentle tone and cast of talking animals, Peppa Pig is an unlikely show to fall foul of the politically correct brigade.
But fire chiefs have accused the pre-school cartoon of sexism after an episode referred to firefighters as ‘firemen’. The London Fire Brigade tweeted the clip and wrote: ‘Come on Peppa Pig, we’ve not been firemen for 30 years. You have a huge influence on kids and using out-of-date, stereotypical, gender-specific wording prevents young girls from becoming firefighters.’
They finished the tweet with the hashtag FirefightingSexism.
However, the post may have backfired – as the episode sees Miss Rabbit take control of the fire station. Even Peppa’s mother Mummy Pig slipped into a firefighter’s uniform, above, to tackle blazes.
Web users flocked to ridicule the fire brigade’s tweet. One, known as DubzLF, joked: ‘Don’t tell Postman Pat.’
