Today’s poem

FUTURE REFLECTIONS

-

Sometimes it seems the light has fled This hostile, storm-tossed world. With all the bonds which held us close Now broken and unfurled. Where once sweet Hope would beckon and Inspire our eager feet, The vista now is empty And weeds have claimed the wheat. And yet, there is a remedy, A balm to soothe the heart, Another script, another play, A very different part. Ring up the coloured curtain On memory’s floodlit stage, And there, reprise some happy time Writ large upon the page. And let today and yesterday Join hands and laugh and sing, For they belong together Upon life’s playground swing. Tomorrow’s all a mystery We’re using up today, But recollections hold the power To light us on our way. Tricia Sturgeon, Mundesley, Norfolk.
