Innocent victims

-

I CAN’T believe the recent decision to prosecute a British soldier.

Growing up in working- class Belfast, I remember the riots and protests, none of which were peaceful. I also recall the murder of my 16year-old friend, who just happened to be the wrong religion for the titfor-tat killers.

Her murderer, like so many, was released as part of the political solution. I have no doubt innocents were killed, but that is the nature of war.

There is something abhorrent and wrong that so many convicted murderers should be freed and this one soldier faces being prosecuted.

Mrs L. WYLIE, Belfast. HERE’S a reminder to all those upset by the families continuing to seek justice for the murder of their loved ones on Bloody Sunday.

Those taking part in the peaceful demonstration on that day were unarmed and those who murdered them were there as law-keepers. The victims had nothing to do with terrorist atrocities — they were on a civil rights march. Those who were there in an official capacity murdered them.

Of course the perpetrators should be brought to justice. Those who wield arms in an official capacity should not become terrorists themselves. This served as a recruitment drive for the IRA.
