BEFORE
the year is out, all adult websites will be required by law to request proof of age from users. This is a laudable — if perhaps futile — bid to stop young people being exposed to online pornography.
But guess what? The firm administering the checks, AgeID, is owned by the same internet giant, Mindgeek, that owns Pornhub, one of the biggest online purveyors of hardcore content. Now that’s a circle it’s hard to square.
Still, perhaps we should all lighten up, since Channel 4 has come up with a brilliant ruse to put youngsters off porn for ever. Mums Make Porn (tonight at 10pm) sees a group of mothers get together to write and direct an adult entertainment film that, if not exactly suitable for family viewing, they’d be happy for their teenagers to watch.
Now, I’m the first to admit I’m not an expert on the genre — but if there’s one thing guaranteed to put kids off anything, it’s Mum getting in on the act. On that basis, perhaps I should start vaping . . .
