Pension poverty

INCREASING the state pension age from 60 to 66 for women born in the Fifties is contributing to homelessness, poverty and financial hardship, says the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.

It has urged the Government to take ‘effective measures’ to ensure the increase in state pension age did not discriminate against the women affected by the rise.
