Hammerson woe

-

THE boss of the shopping centre owner Hammerson gave up his bonus in 2018 after a dismal year.

Chief executive David Atkins’ actions follow a botched £3.4bn takeover of smaller rival Intu. Atkins, 52, was paid £1.2m last year compared with £ 1.8m in 2017 after he missed out on the extra rewards. In 2017, he bagged a bonus worth £595,000.

Hammerson, which owns the Birmingham Bullring, is preparing to sell as much as £900m worth of property to pay off its debt pile. It made a £266.7m loss in the year to December 31, from a £ 413.4m profit a year earlier.
