In court, ‘neo-Nazi who won Miss Hitler beauty pageant’

- By Claire Duffin

A YOUNG woman accused of being a member of a banned far-Right group won a ‘Miss Hitler’ beauty pageant, a court heard yesterday.

Alice Cutter, 22, entered the contest under the name Buchenwald Princess, a reference to the Nazi death camp where thousands of Jews and other prisoners died, jurors were told.

The competition in 2016 was organised by neo-Nazi group National Action and held just days after Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by a far-Right extremist. The group was banned in December 2016 by then home secretary Amber Rudd after members celebrated the politician’s death.

Cutter and her fiancé Mark Jones, 24, are accused of belonging to the group. Also on trial are Garry Jack, 23, of Birmingham, and 18-year-old Connor Scothern, of Nottingham. All four deny the charge. Yesterday, Birmingham Crown Court was told that Jones travelled to Germany in 2016 to visit Buchenwald, where he was allegedly pictured in the execution room doing a Nazi salute.

Prosecutor Barnaby Jameson said it was ‘no coincidence’ Cutter chose the name Buchenwald Princess for the beauty pageant after her partner’s visit. Mr Jameson said the contest was designed to attract new members.

In an online mission statement Cutter said: ‘Women are the most important figures when it comes to teaching and raising the next generation to be strong and proud. We need to step up, be the lionesses we ought to be.’

Mr Jameson told the jury that the accused were seeking to spread terror from ‘an ideology so warped, so extreme and so twisted, its continued existence will be shocking to many, if not all, of you’. The trial continues.
