City’s bid to ban sales of e-cigs
SALES of e-cigarettes could be banned in San Francisco amid health concerns.
The Californian city has proposed halting the sale of the products until the US government regulates them.
City attorney Dennis Herrera said San Francisco, Chicago and New York have sent a joint letter demanding the US Food and Drug Administration evaluate the health effects of e-cigarettes.
Mr Herrera said the review should have been carried out before e-cigarettes entered the market. He added: ‘Millions of children are already addicted and millions more will follow if we don’t act.’
Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is addictive and can harm adolescent brains. The FDA declined to comment. Manufacturers say vaping is less harmful than traditional cigarettes.
