Sale of the 21st Century! Disney gobbles up Fox

DISNEY has completed its £54billion purchase of 21st Century Fox as it prepares to take on Netflix.

The media giant’s deal will bring major Fox franchises, including X-Men and Avatar, under the same roof as Mickey Mouse, Star Wars and Marvel superheroes.

It comes a year after Disney won a bidding war against rival Comcast for Fox’s film studio and entertainment divisions, which will bolster its forthcoming streaming service Disney+.

Disney boss Bob Iger said it was an ‘extraordinary and historic moment’.
