BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

T es co Finest Pro sec co ,£7( from £8) PROSECCO sales might have dipped for the first time in a decade but, with bargains like this, the bubble is far from bursting. Fresh, frothy and light, with gorgeous pear and citrus fruits, it’s a delight to drink.

WHITE WINE

Ferrandièr­e Pinot Gris 2018,£ A RIPER, fruitier take on Pinot Grigio. The grape is the same, but the style is quite different, not least as this one is from France’s Languedoc region. There’s more peach and pear fruit, but still a crisp freshness. It’s also very good value.

FOOD PAIRING: Chicken stir-fry.

RED WINE

Al-Ria Tinto 2016, £ 7.95, The Wine Society A VELVET-SOFT red made from a blend of traditiona­l Portuguese reds such as Touriga Nacional, along with the more familiar Syrah. It’s full of juicy bramble fruit and allspice, with a hefty hit of alcohol.

FOOD PAIRING: Lamb tagine.

SPARKLING WINE

Jansz Premium Cuvee NV ,£ MADE from the Pinot Noir grape grown in Tasmania. Yes, Tasmania, where the cool climate is perfect for producing grapes to make traditiona­l method sparkling wines in the same way as champagne. It’s rich with a whiff of honeysuckl­e and red fruits.
