‘Train surfers’ found dead on railway track

-

TWO people found dead on rail tracks after being electrocuted may have been graffiti artists or ‘train surfers’ who ride on the outside of a moving train.

Their bodies were found separately in the early hours of yesterday near the former Olympic stadium, now the home of West Ham football club, east London.

Police said their injuries were ‘consistent with electrocution’.

The first victim was found after police were called to the line between Hackney Wick and Stratford at 1am. The second was discovered 90 minutes later.

Novelist Joseph Allchin, 35, who phoned police, told the London Evening Standard: ‘I heard a loud explosion, went to the window and saw a fire on the tracks … I thought it was fireworks at first.’

A spokesman for British Transport Police said yesterday: ‘One of the victims is a male in his 20s, we cannot confirm which one at this time. We are looking into the possibility that the victims were train surfers or graffiti artists.’
