Trump’s blast at McCain – seven months after he died!

- From Daniel Bates in New York

DONALD Trump has reignited his feud with Senator John McCain – seven months after the Vietnam War hero’s death.

The US President, unprompted, has criticised him twice in a week – and been rebuked by members of his own party.

In his latest outburst, at a rally in Ohio, Mr Trump moaned that he ‘didn’t get a thank you’ for signing off Mr McCain’s state funeral last year. He added that he had ‘never liked him’.

He was not invited to the funeral at the family’s request because of the pair’s feud when the senator was alive. Former presidential candidate Mr McCain died at 81 last August.

Mr Trump’s comments were denounced as ‘deplorable’ by Republican senator Johnny Isakson. Senator Mitt Romney said he could not understand why the President would attack such a ‘courageous, patriotic... and self-effacing’ man.

Mr McCain’s youngest daughter Brigit tweeted that Mr Trump was not invited to her father’s funeral because ‘you could not be counted on to be courteous, as you are a child in the most important role the world knows’.
