Respect our vote
WE’RE down to the wire in the Government’s efforts to secure Brexit, with no prospect of agreement in Parliament and a disregard of the referendum result by many MPs.
I strongly disagree with the labelling of Jacob Rees- Mogg and his European Research Group (ERG) as being ‘the most deplorable of all the subversives’ (Mail).
The withdrawal agreement, while a valiant effort to find a satisfactory solution, is badly flawed and would limit our independence or could result in Britain being legally bound to the EU with no means of exit.
That is why it has twice been comprehensively defeated in Parliament, not because of the ‘purist’ views of the ERG.
Mr Rees-Mogg has made it clear he and the ERG would prefer a deal, but not one that handicaps the future of the UK or keeps us under the control of the EU.
That is what we voted for — is it too much to ask that Parliament respects that wish?
