Lawyer hands in Russia-Trump inquiry dossier
THE report into alleged collusion between Russia and Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign was handed over to the US attorney general yesterday after a 22-month investigation.
It is not clear how much of the report by special counsel Robert Mueller will become public or be provided to Congress. But the development sets the stage for further strife in America.
Mr Mueller’s inquiry has already resulted in criminal charges against 34 people including six who served on President Trump’s campaign. Mr Trump has faced allegations that his campaign colluded with the Kremlin, and that he later acted to obstruct the probe. He has repeatedly claimed he is the victim of a ‘witch hunt’.
Attorney general William Barr has said he will write his own report summarising Mr Mueller’s findings – possibly by as early as next weekend.
World leaders yesterday condemned Mr Trump after he declared the US will recognise the Golan Heights as belonging to Israel. Israel seized the area from Syria in 1967 after the Six Day War. Its annexation of the Heights in 1981 was not internationally recognised.
