Troops ‘can fire at Paris rioters’

FRENCH soldiers will be permitted to ‘open fire’ on Yellow Vest rioters today, the military governor of Paris said yesterday.

The French army will support 5,000 police officers at the 19th consecutive Yellow Vest Saturday demonstration, after last weekend saw banks and high-end shops burnt out by rioters calling for president Emmanuel Macron’s resignation.

General Bruno Leray told Franceinfo Radio: ‘If their life or that of the people they defend is threatened, they can go as far as opening fire.’
