is to install cameras and sensors into all its cars from next year to check whether the driver is drunk, tired or distracted while at the wheel.

If so, the on-board computer will bring the vehicle to a stop. The Big Brother technology follows the decision by Volvo, owned by the Chinese car giant Geely, to limit top speeds of future models to 112 mph as part of its Vision 2020 strategy to cut road accident deaths in its vehicles by next year.

Trigger points include: lack of steering input from the driver, eyes closed or off the road for extended periods, extreme weaving across lanes and very slow reactions.
