Royal Mail chairman

-

FORMER British Airways boss Keith Williams has been appointed chairman of Royal Mail.

Williams, who is currently deputy chairman, will take over from Les Owen on May 22 – making him the third person to hold the position in little over eight months.

Owen took the reins temporarily in September when Peter Long left after a massive investor revolt over pay. Last July, about 70pc of shareholders voted against a £2.7m package handed to chief executive Rico Back.

Yesterday a top Royal Mail shareholder warned Williams was spread too thin.

They said it was ‘simply not credible’ he could do the job and remain chairman of Halfords and deputy chairman at John Lewis.
