MISSING . . . and FOUND!

-

THE DAILY MAIL offers readers a unique opportunity to re-establish contact with long-lost relatives and friends. Each week, MONICA PORTER features the story of someone trying to find a missing loved one, as well as a tale of people reunited. This column is produced in conjunction with the voluntary tracing service Searching For A Memory, run by Gill and John Whitley. AN OLD seadog is hoping to make contact with a Merchant Navy pal.

‘ I’d like to trace Leslie Ferguson, who I haven’t seen since September 1973,’ writes Peter Gage of Kingskerswell, in Devon.

‘ He came from Guelph Street, in Liverpool, and we were great pals while serving in the Merchant Navy during the Sixties.

‘We travelled to many parts of the world, sailing out from Southampton and Liverpool on the Queen Mary, RMS Carinthia of the Cunard Line and the TSS Golfito, a banana boat of the Fyffes Line, among others.

‘I left the Merchant Navy in 1966 to pursue a career in finance and insurance.

‘Leslie moved to San Diego, California, where he became a restaurant manager. However, I believe that, many years later, he returned to Liverpool.

‘We are both 73. I often look at a treasured old photo from my Merchant Navy days, showing a group of us, including Les, relaxing with our pints.’
