Ronnie world No 1 for first time in 9 years
RONNIE O’SULLIVAN is world snooker No 1 for the first time since May 2010 after beating Neil Robertson 13- 11 in the Coral Tour Championship final in Llandudno.
The victory is the 36th ranking title of Sullivan’s career, equalling Stephen Hendry’s record.
‘It’s probably one of the best achievements,’ said O’Sullivan. ‘I’m delighted. For me it’s all about getting a bit of silverware towards the end of my career, because I’m ready for the seniors tour.’ In the final frame, Robertson missed a black to let in O’Sullivan, who sealed the £150,000 prize with a 96 clearance.
‘He’s the Roger Federer of snooker, he’s probably even better than that,’ said Robertson.
O’Sullivan, 43, is the oldest player to hold the No 1 ranking since Ray Reardon in 1983. O’Sullivan has three weeks’ rest before the World Championship in Sheffield.
