Bercow sparks fury... again
SPEAKER John Bercow sparked fury among Conservative MPs after he rebuked Tory whip Greg Hands.
He was accused by Sir Patrick McLoughlin, a former Tory chief whip, of failing to treat the MP for Chelsea and Fulham with respect.
Mr Bercow had reportedly said: ‘Order! I don’t require the help of the right honourable member ... who didn’t have the foggiest idea where to start.
‘He was once a whip, he wasn’t a very good whip!’
He backed down after MPs shouted at him to withdraw the comments, saying: ‘I am very happy to apologise to the right honourable gentleman.’
