Minister is ‘happy’ to revoke Article 50

-

A MINISTER broke ranks to say he would be ‘happy’ to revoke Article 50 – effectively cancelling Brexit – if it became an option in the event of Theresa May’s deal being defeated.

Foreign Office Minister Mark Field became the first Government minister to support the move if it is possible. He told BBC Radio 4’s Westminster Hour: ‘My personal view is that I would be happy to revoke Article 50. I appreciate that is probably a minority view, but if we get to this utter paralysis, and I sincerely hope in the next 4 /72 hours we do not, then... it’s an option I would personally take.’ The MP for the Cities of London and Westminster – which had one of the highest remain votes – suggested Europe would prefer the UK to revoke it for two years and think again, rather than have a delay of just a few months.

A petition to revoke Article 50 has gathered 5.5million signatures.
