What a difference a week makes!
JUST a week ago this canal at Salford Quays was clogged with rubbish.
Sofas, fridges, aluminium kegs, old footballs, bottles and cans were pictured in Thursday’s Daily Mail blighting the waterway after flooding. But the larger items of junk were likely to have been fly-tipped.
Since then, the site – close to the BBC’s media city complex – has changed almost beyond recognition. Residents had tweeted their disgust, with one posting: ‘Any chance of a clear-up? Or a refund on my council tax?’ Councillors said responsibility lay with Peel Holdings, which owns the canal.
Salford councillor David Lancaster said: ‘It’s been cleaned by Peel and the city council, it isn’t quite finished yet but it’s looking a lot better.’
And he insisted that the authority was taking a tough line against fly-tippers.
